When you are hiring someone to be in your company you always want to make sure that they are going to be a great worker, and that they are the right person for the job. You always want to hire the person that is the most qualified for the job regardless of race, religion, or sexual orientation. Simply put, you want to be an equal opportunity employer. However, you also want to make sure that the work place is going to continue to be a safe place to work, and that your employees will always feel like they are safe. For this reason it is important to know about the individuals that you are going to hire. Here are a few different things that you can do to ensure that your next employee will help keep your business a safe place to work.

Background Check

One of the ways that you can check if the potential employee will help maintain a safe standard at work is a background check. You want to make sure that in the past a potential employee has demonstrated that they are safe. Hopefully the background check comes back and they are squeaky clean. However, there is a chance that they will have some things in their past that need to be addressed. There is no doubt that people can and do change. So you need to talk with them about anything that is a potential problem during the interview.

Drug Testing

As an employer there is no doubt that you have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to drugs and alcohol on the job. Once you find the right candidate, it is smart to have you hiring them contingent on them passing a drug test. You want to make sure that your potential employee does not have a problem with any type of drug. Most of the time they can check for most drugs through a simple urine test. It can't be over exaggerated how important it is that your employees come to work with a clear head. This is especially true if you are running a construction company, or are working around heavy machinery. Someone that can't pass a drug test is much more likely to be using when they come to work, and that is very dangerous to the rest of your employees. To ensure that your potential employees are safety conscious and responsible, have them take a drug test before hiring them.

You can work with companies like Blueline Services for background checks and other screenings.
